Georgia Rutherford

Sophie is a fabulous teacher. I've been attending her classes for the last two years and the strength, mobility and energy I now have as a result is something I notice every day, and has made me quite addicted to Pilates!

Google review

Menna Bond

Coming back to Pilates after a long absence helped in my knee recovery following an accident. Sophie is very aware if anybody has an injury and offers alternatives.

Google review

Carole Mayo

A small group works so well for Pilates. She manages to tailor her responses to people's individual needs, from this will be good for your tennis to correcting my imbalanced standing poses.

Camilla Petty

I've been doing pilates with Sophie as part of a group on a weekly basis for nearly a year now and it's been the best investment I've ever made in my health and wellbeing.

Emma Harries

Having had a long break from pilates post children, Sophie's class has been fantastic for rebuilding my core strength. Classes are always enjoyable!

Richard McKenzie

Sophie has that rare quality of knowing how to encourage and challenge at the same time. The classes are always well organised, welcoming and purposeful.

Vimal Gulati

I have been attending Pilates sessions with Sophie ever since she started at Dulwich and Sydenham Hill Golf Club. She makes it a point to limit each session so she can give each person her special attention.

Tamsin Gafney

Sophie offered a small group of us an all abilities introduction course. Her approach was relaxed but very thorough, offering good insight into the foundations of Pilates.

What is mat Pilates?

New to Pilates? Here's the short version, no jargon, no experience needed.

  • What is mat Pilates?

Face to face mat Pilates, based on the Body Control Pilates method: floor-based, controlled movement using your own bodyweight, no reformers or machines involved.

  • Small groups, tailored to you

Classes stay deliberately small so a teacher can adapt every exercise to your body, from a tweak for your tennis game to correcting an imbalanced standing pose.

  • Built for healthy ageing and bone health

Classes like Bone Health & Healthy Backs strengthen the areas that matter most as we age: spine, hips, ankles and wrists, and are particularly suitable for osteopenia and early-stage osteoporosis.

  • From absolute beginner to advanced

Classes run Beginners to Mixed Ability through to Intermediate, so you start wherever you are. You're not competing with anyone else in class.

Meet the team

Founder Sophie and five teachers keeping small, friendly classes going across Dulwich, each with their own path into Pilates.

Sophie C, owner and teacher at Pilates Star

Sophie C

Owner & Teacher

Body Control Pilates Teacher, Back4Good® Practitioner & Bone Health Specialist

I teach from absolute beginners through to advanced. My passion is to make you feel stronger, more mobile, more confident and to relieve those aches and pains which we get through general daily activities or sport. I'm based in Spain these days, and run Pilates Star remotely with a small team of real teachers keeping classes going across Dulwich.

It's interesting that on-going chronic back pain is not necessarily the fault of your spine, but possibly 'gives' or 'restrictions' in your other main joints.

Back to moving after a knee injury

Menna had a long absence from Pilates, then an accident and a knee injury to recover from. Coming back to a small, familiar class made all the difference.
